Hello admin! Yesterday evening I worked on my laptop and did Shutdown, but the laptop did not turn off, began to install some updates, wrote to me that the computer would turn off automatically and imagine, it didn’t turn off even after an hour, I came up, and on the laptop screen there was already another inscription - Failed to configure Windows updates. Cancel changes, well, I think ok, let it roll back, but even in three hours nothing could be rolled back; already at one o’clock in the morning I forcibly turned off the laptop.

This morning I turn it on and again this error appears: Windows updates could not be configured. Cancel changes all day long. I wanted to enter safe mode using the F8 key at boot, but it was useless, I also used the Shift+F8 key combination, also to no avail.

I went online, but there seemed to be no solution to this problem; even on the official Microsoft website they said that only reinstalling the system would solve the problem. What is this newest Windows 8, huh?

Failed to configure Windows updates. Cancel changes

Hi all! At my work, for a month now, every other day I encounter a similar problem, apparently Microsoft released some kind of incorrect update.

1) A simple way to defeat the error - Failed to configure Windows updates. Cancel changes. We will boot from the recovery flash drive and run System Restore. Works in most cases.

2) The hard way. Cleaning the folder and stopping the Windows Update service. This folder contains Windows 8 update files, which contain the error. You will need a simple LiveCD or rescue disk, or better yet, a professional Microsoft Diagnostic and Recovery Toolset 8.1. if you have Win 8.1 and Microsoft Diagnostic and Recovery Toolset 8.0 if you have Win 8.

You can solve this problem without reinstalling Windows 8 using the Windows 8 recovery environment, but you must have either an 8 recovery disk or a recovery flash drive will also work. Whatever you have, you need to do everything the same.

We connect the Windows 8 recovery flash drive to the laptop and turn on the laptop. To boot the laptop from the flash drive, first of all, you need to enter the boot menu of the laptop, on my laptop the F12 key is responsible for this.

  • Note: If you don’t know, follow the link and read our special article.

We boot the problematic laptop from the recovery flash drive. In the boot menu of the laptop, use the arrows on the keyboard to select our recovery flash drive and press Enter.

Well, we booted from the recovery flash drive. It is useless to choose a language, everything will still be in English.

Note: If you boot from the Windows 8 installation disk or recovery disk, then everything will be in Russian, so I will show you the necessary menu items in Russian.

Need to choose Troubleshoot(Diagnose or fix the problem)

Advanced options(Extra options)

System Restore(System Restore).

Choose Windows 8.1

Select the last restore point

Finish

Yes(restore cannot be undone)

The system recovery process begins, which in most cases will be completed successfully.

In rare cases, this will not help, then you need to boot the laptop from any LiveCD, go to the C: drive in the folder

C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download and clean it.

Bootable Live CD AOMEI PE Builder

Microsoft Diagnostic and Recovery Toolset 8.0

Instead of LiveCD, I use Microsoft Diagnostic and Recovery Toolset 8.0 for Windows 8 or Microsoft Diagnostic and Recovery Toolset 8.1 rescue disk. for Win 8.1, .

It is not necessary to connect to the Internet. No.

Russian.

Diagnostics.

Microsoft Diagnostic and Recovery Toolset. Windows 8.

Explorer (conductor).

Please note that drive C: is not the Windows 8 drive.

And the hidden partition is System Reserved (containing Windows 8 boot files).

The section with the operating system files is under the letter D:, find the folder D:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download and delete everything from it.

This folder contains Windows 8 update files, which contain the error. Next we reboot.

Once, system restore did not help me and clearing the C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download folder did not help, then I booted again from the Microsoft Diagnostic and Recovery Toolset disk. Windows 8 and selected Computer Management.

Then Services, double right-click on the service Windows Update

And stop it, then Apply and OK. after that Windows 8 booted.

Microsoft constantly releases updates for Windows 7 (x64 x32 (86)) to make it better and safer.

There are just cases when updates on Windows 7 do not start / install / download.

Although there are not many problematic reasons for Windows 7, there is no universal recipe for when a failure occurs.

If Windows 7 updates are not installed, then an error number is almost always indicated - over time I will describe their solutions, and methods that solve most problems are provided below.

Fixing update installation failure issues by clearing the cache

If you are unable to install updates, one of the reasons may be an incorrect download.

The fact is that if they are downloaded, they are immediately placed in the cache, and when downloading something may not load correctly and, therefore, installation will be impossible.

Then, if you try to download them again on Windows 7, the system will access the cache and will not do this.

She will simply think that everything has already been done - therefore, it needs to be cleaned and everything repeated.

How to clear the cache of Windows 7. The eight has a special utility integrated, the seven does not have it - you need to clear it manually.

Why aren't Windows 7 updates installed yet?

If the question of why Windows 7 updates are not installed is still relevant, look at your hard drive - perhaps there is simply no free space left on it (it is recommended to leave 5 GB).

Are you sure that you have a licensed Windows 7 OS? If not, that could be the problem. If so, then forget about installing them.

To start downloading updates, the Internet must be connected. Look - the connection may have been lost.

That’s all - the main problems that interfere with updating Windows 7 are listed (you can see the solution to these errors at the link at the beginning of the article). Good luck.

Even though Microsoft no longer supports the Windows 7 operating system, it still provides security updates for it. The question of why updates are not installed is very relevant. This article will provide answers to fix common problems.

Automatic update disabled

A common reason that Windows 7 does not find updates is that auto-update is disabled in the settings. Enabling this feature is quite simple:

It happens that checkbox missing on the taskbar. Then you can solve the problem in another way:

  • To do this, go to “Start”, select “ Control Panel»;
  • Further " system and safety»;
  • then select from the list " Turn automatic updates on or off».

Incorrect download of updates

You can fix the error of incorrect downloading of updates for Windows in the following way:

After this, you can restart the installation.

Registry problems

The reason that Windows 7 does not update may be a registry malfunction. You can fix it as follows:

The update service is not working correctly

Some problems with installing packages are related to the service responsible for downloading them. The failure can be resolved in several ways:

If the process fails to start again, you will need to perform additional steps:

Lack of hard disk space

The problems can be quite simple, for example, lack of hard drive space. For the installation services to function properly, you need minimum 5 GB free space.

The solution to the problem is quite simple. Requires removal unnecessary files and programs from the system disk. To do this, you can use standard Windows 7 tools, for example, “” located in the Control Panel.

Internet problems

Problems with the Internet connection may be the reason why updates are not installed:

Damage to system component storage

It happens that problems can be caused by damage to system components. There may be reasons a bunch of:

  • 0x800B0101 – the certificate could not be installed;
  • 0x8007371B – transaction distribution error;
  • 0x80070490 – error of a non-existent or deleted update file;
  • 0x8007370B – error identifying object properties;
  • 0x80070057 – parameters error;
  • 0x800736CC – element matching error;
  • 0x8007000D – data initialization error;
  • 0x800F081F – missing required files.

Above are the most common errors that occur when system components are damaged. There are several methods for permission.

One of the most effective is installationWindows 7 in update mode. This option is characterized by the correction of most errors, while it will allow you to save personal files and system settings.

For this required:

When you run this command, the system will check the integrity of the files and will be able to restore them. If the data is recovered, you can run the installation again.

Error 643

This crash is dependent on a Microsoft NET Framework service. To solve a software problem, you will need to do the following:

The second option involves removing this component and reinstalling it.

Other solutions

In addition to the above methods for correcting failures when installing updates using system tools, you can use additional software.

Using Microsoft FixIt

To troubleshoot problems, you will need the Fixit utility, created by the operating system manufacturer. It eliminates problems associated with the operation of the Update Center.

After downloading the software, installation is required. During this, the program will automatically create restore point. The utility will search for data about failures and try to fix the files.

Clearing cache

In some situations, Windows 7 does not search for updates due to loading problems. The essence of the process is that the files are loaded into the cache memory and stored there until the user starts installing them:

Running an update manually

To manually start, you will need to call the “Win + R” utility and enter the request “ Wuapp" In the window that opens, select "". In the “Important” section, select the first installation option. Thus, the user will install updates manually.

You must wait until the computer restarts again, or press the “Reset” key. If you are working with a laptop, hold down the power button. When loading the BIOS, press the F8 key. In the system boot data that opens, select the “Safe Mode” line and wait. At this time, the system is loading. When the familiar desktop appears, go to the start menu. Next, select the “Computer” line and the local drive on your device, which in most cases is indicated by the letter “C”. After that, go to the following path: “C:/windows/SoftwareDistribution/Download/”. This will lead to the final step - deleting the downloaded Microsoft Windows update files. If selective deletion of only the latest updates causes difficulties, you can press “Ctrl+A” and then press “Del” to delete all existing files. After that, reboot the system and enable its updates.

Restoring a system backup

The method of troubleshooting by restoring a backup version begins in the same way as the previous one - when restarting the computer, press the F8 key. Further:

  1. Select the line “Safe mode with command line support” and confirm with the Enter key.
  2. In the line, type the word “msconfig” and press Enter again.
  3. The System Configuration window opens.
  4. At the top right of the window, select “Service”, and in the new window that appears, select “restore the computer system to one of its previous states.”
  5. In the window that opens called “System Restore”, confirm the actions with the “Next” button.
  6. Select the line we need “Removed Windows 7...” and click “Next” again.
  7. We confirm the final completion of the procedure with the “Finish” button.

After confirming the recovery notification with the “Yes” button, you need to restart the computer, update the system, or disable updates altogether.

Troubleshooting methods in extreme cases

If no procedures to resolve the problem are successful, you can resort to a proven method - reinstalling the OS. You can perform this procedure either yourself using a bootable flash drive or disk, or contact a specialist. This method is quite effective, but is accompanied by loss of data on the computer.

There are also cases when data on a PC must be saved. Then it is better to contact a service center, where experienced employees will help resolve the update problem, reinstall the OS and save the necessary files.

Let's take it in order. When updating Windows services, identification for the license is carried out. In the case of a pirated version, the check does not complete successfully and an error appears.

The reason may also be user actions. Have you seen messages on the taskbar about updates or when you turn off your computer? There also appears a message that the update is in progress, for example, 47%. A bit of a lengthy process, and it often requires resources. And when you turn off the computer, the screen does not go dark, and the OS informs you that you should not try to turn off the computer, do not pull the cord from the outlet...

Unfortunately, many users, due to their inattention or stupidity in combination with other character traits, harm the OS, doing everything exactly the opposite. Now let's look at tips for eliminating this violation...

Failures of this type are characterized by 2 main reasons:

  • A pirated version of Windows is installed on the PC;
  • User's carelessness or negligence

Method 1:

When you try to install updates, the OS notifies you that it is impossible to configure these updates and that you are canceling the changes. The PC reboots, again updates unsuccessfully, the process repeats, repeats again, and repeats again, the evil user pulls the cord plug from the socket or presses the button on the system unit to reboot in the hope of changing something, since the computer does not turn off after Windows 7 shuts down There is no point in doing this, because the work is not completed!

You need to wait for the next reboot, or you can do it using Reset. On the laptop, press the power button. While loading BIOS click F8 to open the OS boot menu. In the menu that appears, find the launch option Safe mode and start the system.

Because Since most services are inactive in safe mode, the update download service will stop working. After loading the OS, click on the checkbox on the taskbar. Now you need to open the column My computer .

Select the local OS drive on which Windows was installed. If you have several of them, and you have no idea which OS they are on, then go through them ( of course, with a glance! the local disk with the OS is marked with a flag ), there should be a folder called Windows:

A window will open in front of you with long and strange folder names. You will need to look by date and delete the latest ones, see the picture:

If you have difficulty deleting the latest update releases, then select all existing folders and delete them. Now reboot the OS and try to enable updates, but if you own a pirated version, then updates must be disabled to avoid a repeat crash.

Of course, the screenshot with the checkboxes highlighted and updates enabled (with a green picture) shows what to do with the licensed program. Well, where everything is disabled and the checkboxes are unchecked (accordingly, the picture is red) - an option for pirated OS releases.

Reboot your PC again and look at the changes.

Method 2:

If you are not lucky enough to solve the problem, then there is this option, it is also effective and quite affordable.

You also press F8 at startup, but now select the download option Safe Mode with Command Line Support , don't get confused. This is what it looks like, you type in it msconfig, click on Enter . The command will be executed and the window will open:

Now, a system configuration window has appeared, now go to the service and look for the system recovery line. Windows 7 failed to configure updates

Press it's ready. After the changes have been made, also proceed to updates, and then you can decide whether to do them automatically or refuse altogether. If you forgot something, all this is indicated in the 1st method, do not forget to also check the boxes. Again, reboot your PC.
